Derek has been in the insurance industry for more than 20 years. He brings a unique perspective to his current position. He spent 7 years working as an underwriter for a large international insurance company, 11 years as Corporate Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Western States Insurance Agency, and now as a Commercial Lines Producer.

Having sat behind the desk as an underwriter (the insurance company person who prices your policy) Derek knows what it takes to get the best coverage at the best available pricing. He will interview you asking a number of specific questions and then craft a letter painting a picture for the company underwriter that will lead to the most aggressive pricing possible for you. He knows that professional representation is the key in putting together the best insurance program for his clients.

Derek is a firm believer that if you are going to be in the business of risk management, being properly educated is essential. After graduating from the University of Montana in 1985 with a degree in Business Administration, he immediately began enhancing his insurance education. He currently holds the coveted Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Certified Insurance Counselors (CIC) designations.
